Description

As GARNET member institutions increasingly adopt cloud services and participate in international collaborations, the need for secure and seamless access to digital resources has become more critical than ever. The Ghanaian Academic and Research Network (GARNET) has established the GARNET Identity Federation, designed to integrate member institutions' Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems.

This training is tailored to equip participants with the necessary skills to deploy, configure, and manage identity services, enabling seamless integration into the federation.

Workshop Objectives

  1. Guide institutions in configuring directory services: This workshop will cover the setup of OpenLDAP and FreeRADIUS, enabling participants to create a foundational directory and network authentication setup aligned with GARNET standards.
  2. Enable identity federation with GARNET: Through hands-on sessions, participants will install and configure Shibboleth IdP, preparing their institutions for secure federated identity and Single Sign-On (SSO) integration with GARNET.
  3. Build IAM administration capabilities: Participants will gain practical skills in managing IAM systems using Apache Directory Studio for LDAP management and Keycloak for centralized role-based access control, SSO, and integration.
  4. Foster readiness for federated access: The training will emphasize configurations that facilitate secure interoperability with GARNET’s identity federation, ensuring that institutions are equipped for seamless, cross-institutional access.
  5. Promote sustainable IAM knowledge: By equipping participants with hands-on skills in IAM deployment and management, the workshop empowers institutions to extend knowledge to their teams, fostering a sustainable model for IAM operations within GARNET.
